Chit Chat: Getting Ready for the Season Change

In case you didn't know, summer is officially over and it's now Fall. We spend Saturday up in Rocky Mountain National Park watching the elk bugle. This is an annual tradition for us (check out last years pictures here). This year we took a couple of Baby Boy's friends, so their parent could have a date night before their 3rd baby arrived in a few weeks. I didn't get too many good pictures because I was too busy entertaining 3 little boys.

Anyway, we had a great time. While the boys were climbing rocks, a bull elk walked by in the field below and bugled. Baby Boy decided to bugle back, which in some ways was quite humorous, but I also held my breath since depending on how the elk responded it could have been an accident waiting to happen! When we saw the second, bigger, bull elk, Baby Boy didn't just want to bugle back to it, he wanted to pet it or ride it...who knows what was going through his mind. Every time he thought we weren't watching, he'd try to make a break for it (Note to self...Don't let your baby ride pony's at the county fair until they are old enough to understand not all animals are tame). It truly is a good thing that Baby Boy's friends were well behaved and listened to our directions.

As we were driving down the mountain, I was thinking it won't be long before we start getting snow. We had the threat of snow last week one day, but the weather man was wrong. So now, I am scurrying around gathering supplies and building up my arsenal to entertain Baby Boy on days we are stuck inside.

So far we have crayons, finger paint, construction paper, glue. I'm not sure what else I'll get. I'm looking for suggestions. Baby Boy is almost 18 months old. What would you stock in your rainy day supply cabinet for an 18 month old? Leave a comment and let me know.

  2. Wow, those pictures are gorgeous!!! How fun that that has become an annual tradition for your family! I could easily see my kids doing what your 18-mo old son did!!! They have no fear at this age, do they?

  3. Cool pictures! I love Fall time. I wish it were more apparent where I live.

For toys and great kid stuff- try a Lakeshore Learning store. I love them and they have neat stuff for all ages. If you don't have one near you, you can shop online (also check ebay). I posted about them here: http://socalsuz.blogspot.com/2009/07/got-kids-this-is-store-for-you.html

  4. Can you believe summer is over??? Do I say that every year or what? ;)

We have about the same supplies in our closet... and shapes and worksheets and old magazines for them to cut up and homemade play dough.

We've got six months to use them all up. :)

    Blessings-

  8. What a wonderful time. It is so cold today. I actully flipped the heat on while I got my mom up. She is always cold.
Last year we got a big ice storm and was without power for 4 days. It was so cold . 34 degrees in the house one morning. I am ready this year we have a wall gas heater now. So if the heat goes out we will just sleep by the wall gas heater. When I was young we had a wood stove . I miss that.Have fun with your baby boy.

  9. What great photos! I wish I had some scenery like that here in FL:)
I have 22 month old triplets, and I'm always looking for things to do at home with them! I just got them a water/sand table which they love, but of course, that's quite messy!
I also make homemade play dough at least once a week- if you google it you wil find lots of recipes, it takes about 10 minute to make:)

I wanted to invite you to stop by and join the Blog For A Cure blog Party that I am hosting at www.whoknewreviews.blogspot.com- it's a great way to get new followers, win prizes, and support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Hope to see you over there!
