Black Friday & Cyber Monday

Were you brave enough to shop black Friday? Did you get any amazing deals?

I have a confession, I did not shop either of those deal packed days!

To me Black Friday seems like torture (I don't like shopping, especially in crowds). I love a good deal, but I also place a value on my time, and I personally feel that if you average the time you spend shopping and standing in line and charge yourself for that, then the deals are just average. However, for the first time in my adult life, I felt a twinge of remorse yesterday. I complimented one of the girls I work with on her shirt. She said she got it shopping at Kohls on Friday, and then she showed me the cutest coat ever and said it was only $7.99 and...it was reversible!

Cyber Monday could be a shopping alternative for me, but I work, have an 18 month old to take care of, and have a husband that is back in school. The Mondays after Thanksgiving are frequently chaos...both personally and professionally (Yes, it's hard for a girl to drag herself out of bed and into the office after a 4-day weekend, and since this is my busy time at work who has time to check out deals online). I wouldn't even know where to begin.

That really cute $7.99 jacket is making me rethink my lack of participation in Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Would you help prepare me for next year? My questions to all the Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping veterans out there are...

  • What was your best deal?
  • What are you tips to a newbie Black Friday shopper for how to survive?
  • With the plethora of emails and advertisements, how do you get the very best Cyber Monday deals?
I've added a McLinky below. If you have a post that answers one of these questions, feel free to link up (use the title of your post as the link). If you didn't blog about your deals, then leave a comment.

  1. I am an online shopper all the way baby!

  2. I didn't shop either of those days myself. I will do most of it online, a lot of Amazon. Stocking stuffers will be done out and about though!

  3. I tried to link up a post and couldn't get McLinky to work for me. My Black Friday advice (and I'm a HUGE BF shopper) is to always bring a friend or family member. Our annual plan at Kohl's is for one person to immediately get in line when we get there. Then the other goes around finding stuff in the store. Then we switch. We keep switching off until we get to the front. Since the line there is usually 45 min to an hour, it really makes it a lot better of a wait. At stores like Target and Walmart, I suggest not using a cart unless you have a really big item. Take reusable shopping bags to put your stuff in instead. The carts get all clogged up in the aisles, but if you walk around with the bags you can get around the store much easier. Also take a friend there so you can split up and find things faster. That's the best advice I have. And here is the post I did on my deals this year - which, surprisingly, I got on Thanksgiving Day.

  4. I'm not a huge Black Friday shopper....well, make that nonexistent really as I have never gone. However, I have a sister-in-law who is all about it all the time. So I stopped by her house Thanksgiving evening and let her know a deal I would love to get and she picked it up for me.

We're doing Hand-held game devices for our girls in the age appropriate fashion, so we had found a Nintendo DSi Lite on Craigslist for $85 for my oldest (age 8), a used Gameboy Advance PSP for $50 at a secondhand electronics store, but I saw that Walmart had the Vtech Smile handheld with car charger for $30 on Black Friday....so I asked my sil to get that for me.

the other smokin' deal we got on Black friday was a Step 2 wagon (the ones with the seat belts and stow area)...regularly retails new for over $100 (I was seeing $120).....she got it for me for $49.99. I had tried to buy a wagon used, but those wagons are so popular, people don't try to sell them until they have wheels coming off...so getting one secondhand just isn't feasible.

Those were my deals. Oh yeah and Walmart had the games for the vtech smile at 50% off on Black Friday, so she picked up 2 of those to make it an even $100. :)

    Have a great day!

  5. i got so many deal on Black Friday because it save my money and make my monthly budget balanced.it really makes it a lot better of a wait for Black Friday deal.
