Chit Chat: In the Quiet of the Morning

Saturday morning Baby Boy woke up entirely too early for my likes (5 a.m.), so I got up and brought him back to bed with me (hubby had already left to go hunting). Baby Boy was happy with this solution, and went back to sleep. An hour and a half later, I feel Baby Boy reach up and pet my hair, and then he rubbed my face. I said to him, "shhhh. Be still." So then he sits up and falls back on me and laughs, and again I say to him, "shhhh. Be still." Next, he proceeds to stand up and body slam me (he wrestles with his dad a lot), and again I say to him, "shhhh. Be still." Needless to say it was obvious that this boy was ready to start his day. So I got up and fixed breakfast.

As I was watching him eat, I was thinking about the start of our morning, and I wondered...
As busy and hectic as things have been lately, how many times has God said to me, "shhhhh. Be still." And how many times have I responded the same way as Baby Boy did earlier this morning?
Unfortunately, the answer to those questions are quite humbling. There have been too many times that I have refused to "Be Still" before God, and on Saturday morning, He finally got my attention...through the actions of a 17 month old boy.

  4. This is so true! Sometimes we just get so focused in on the tasks at hand the problems we have we don't take time to just BE. Amazing how he lets us know in the most unique yet simple ways.

  5. It's funny, a lot of what we say to our children we could imagine God saying to us.

By the way...I really hope he is able to sleep later for you. When my first was a little, he would get up at 4 am. It took me 2 years to gradually get him to 6am and that is as far as we progressed. :( So both of my kids are up at 6am, no matter what. So sad. But way better than 4 am! Those were some tough years.

  6. What a great post! Isn't it great how we learn things through our children? How funny that he was jumping on you and laughing. Sounds like something one of my silly boys would do!

    Love the photo too! :)

  7. I can't tell you how many times the Lord had gotten my attention by using my children as a mirror for my own actions toward Him.

Thanks for stopping by today :)

  8. So very true.. we need to be still more often so we can hear Him. Out lives become soooo hectic and busy that we neglect to take some time to sit in the stillness and spend some time with God. What a great post! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.. I agree pumpkin and cheesecake.. now that is a match made in heaven ha ha.

  10. Our own children are our best teachers, aren't they? They show us when we need to stop and smell the roses!

  12. He does use them to teach us, doesn't He? It's like an added bonus for enduring labor and delivery. Thanks for being so faithful to always comment. I'm really working harder on doing the same. You're a blessing...great post!
