Chit Chat: Dreary Winter Darkness

This whole Daylight Saving time change thing is the pits. It stinks! It bites! I hate it! Now, not only is it dark when I wake up, but it is dark when I drive home as well. At work, I sit in an area where I don't have a window. I never see the sun (well, except for the 35 minute drive I have to work, but that doesn't count in my book).

The only good thing about "falling back" for Daylight Savings is the extra hour of sleep I get one day a year. Oh wait a minute, now that I have a child, that doesn't happen. So really there are no redeeming qualities about the Winter Daylight Savings! (BTW, if you can think of any be sure to leave a comment below and let me know!)

Since the time change, I feel like it is time for Baby Boy to go to bed as soon as I get home from work. There's no more going outside for a walk after we get home. There is no chatting with the neighbors as we unload the car because no one is out working in their yard in the dark. There is no going to the park to play for a few minutes after dinner and before bed.

The Winter Daylight Savings is isolating. I wish we didn't have to turn the clocks back in the Fall. I would prefer it to be dark in the morning when I am rushing around getting ready for work, and to have a few extra moments of sunshine to enjoy in the evening when I get home. Perhaps I can try to change my hours at work...get there early and leave early. It is worth looking into, right?

  1. Well around here it starts getting dark EARLY, so we actually do get another hour of sunlight which I like...

But its Wed. and we are STILL adjusting!!

    Have a blessed day!

  2. -->I agree 100%! Trying to get my child onto the new schedule is easier now that he's almost three but when he was 12 months old, not so much. I was ready to put him down the other night and it was 6:30, he goes to bed just before 8 usually. I miss the sun.......

  3. I don't mind it, but I also don't have any children. I don't think they should mess with the time at all anymore!

  5. I kinda like it getting dark early when it's so cold...we light candles and the fireplace and the extra hour of sleep is always a plus!

  6. I hate the time change thing too! But it is beautifuol here today! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, .. have I made you jealous yet? When I worked full time, I hated when it got dark so soon! Hopefullly spring will come soon.

  8. I don't like it either. My 4 year old was always up at exactly 7 waking everyone else up. Now he's up at exactly 6 and it's verrry annoying. I'm with you on this one.

  10. So many have had a problem with it but I haven't minded much at all. I guess I am just focusing on wanting cooler weather here in FL!

Thank you for sharing in my SITS day last week, I am still playing catch up!

  11. I agree. I think daylight savings no longer serves a useful purpose. I was just telling my younger son about having difficulty putting him to bed at night because as it was difficult to explain why the sun was shining at 8:30 at night! (laugh).
